Definition
Hovawart is a German breed developed in the late 1800s for hunting and guarding. This medium-sized dog has a short, smooth coat that's black and rust-colored. Hovawarts are highly intelligent, energetic dogs requiring regular exercise and training. Their loyalty and protective nature make them excellent family pets and watchdogs. Originally bred to track and retrieve game, Hovawarts excel at agility and obedience trials.
